01About Stephen

An independent voice for London

The profile

Stephen Conboy is a business owner with practical experience leading two very different London businesses: Donnington Clean, a commercial cleaning company, and Villa di Geggiano, an independent Italian restaurant and cultural venue in Chiswick.

His working life has always centred on people—employees, customers, suppliers and local communities. He understands what it means to create jobs, meet responsibilities, manage rising costs and make decisions that affect real lives. Those who work with Stephen know him as approachable, direct and always willing to listen.

Stephen is standing as an independent because he believes public life needs more practical judgement, personal accountability and fewer decisions dictated by party politics. He wants to bring the same approach he has applied throughout his business career: listen carefully, act decisively and never lose sight of the people behind every decision.

01 / About Stephen
02Priorities

Four areas where clearer decisions are overdue.

01

Public safety

Practical, proportionate policing that protects the public, supports officers and restores confidence in the courts.

02

Education

Teacher-led classrooms, strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics, and technology taught as a subject at the right age.

03

Employment and economic responsibility

A fairer balance between employers and employees, honest public finances and long-term investment in skills and infrastructure.

04

Peace and international cooperation

Dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect between nations, with a serious framework for resolving differences before conflict takes hold.

Seven Days to Get Employment Right

I will immediately propose legislation establishing a statutory seven-day initial qualifying period for new employees. During this period, either the employer or the employee may terminate the employment relationship without the procedural requirements that ordinarily apply to dismissal.

Existing protections against unlawful discrimination, harassment and other automatically unfair dismissals will remain in force throughout the qualifying period. After seven calendar days of continuous employment, the full statutory protections relating to unfair dismissal and dismissal procedures will apply
